Bucket Playlist Update
— Si Sharp / Andy Close -This month Andy has lovingly chosen some new songs for our September for our playlist. Unfortunately he’s on holiday. Not so much a physical holiday, but a holiday from writing the deranged and untrustworthy eyewitness accounts of his own past that he usually festoons upon this site. He’s hung a ‘back in 5 minutes’ sign upon his own brain and it’s down to me to write something about some of the wonders this month…
Well, my favourites on the playlist are…
DECA
DONNER BELL
De La wit attached to a groove that makes you start moving your hands around as you bounce to the train station in the morning. Shit, there’s someone behind you. He’s not judging you. He feels it too.
ARIGATO
RAINCOAT
Growling, whispering commentary over crystal beats, keys and what sounds like strings attached to gardening equipment. Suitably seasonal sounding for our first Autumn playlist.
CLIPPING
NOTHING IS SAFE
Not the first time hip hop has used horror aesthetic to frame the ghetto experience as something terrifying on a primal level, but Gravediggaz never put the shits up us like this has.
MARIE DAVIDSON
WORK IT (SOULWAX REMIX)
Sexy sub-dom teutonic motivational speaker berates you while the Belgian grandmasters of bleep do frankly nothing to help you whatsoever. The ‘oh no, I’ve not revised for exam and it’s RIGHT NOW’ anxiety nightmare has now been officially replaced by ‘I’ve just done ketamine and it’s time for my quarterly performance review’.
FOUR TET
ANNA PAINTING
We’re actually bored of writing about Four Tet’s never-ending purple patch. Just listen.
