Pop Legend Marie Fredriksson Loses Long Battle With Illness— CRAIG LOWE -
Roxette were a banging band. They could write ballads to make the heart soar, rockers to nod your head to, and pop songs to dance the night away. I first came across Roxette at a friend’s house when he had just purchased their cheekily titled best of album, ‘Don’t Bore Us, Get To The Chorus’ and I was instantly hooked.
If Per Gessle was the brains behind the band, it was surely Marie Fredriksson that was the heart and soul, blasting through one of the greatest power ballads of all time with ‘It Must Have Been Love’. Diagnosed with a brain tumour in late 2002, she bravely battled for the last 17 years, still recording and touring the world. Her impact on popular music cannot be understated and it is real loss to see her gone at such a young age.
Here is a quick playlist of the best of her work in Roxette -so many ballads and bangers, it’s almost unreal.
